Happy, happy news!

by Allan McKelvie

Gday once again,

Its been a while since we posted, hard to believe that 2 months have whizzed by. Its been a busy time so lets get right intae it!

Firstly, and most biggestly, Jo and I are delighted to announce to the blogworld that we are engaged. I'm sure most of you will know this by now, and thank you all for your kind messages. We are both very happy. The wedding is going to go ahead in just over a year from now, providing I can get into my dress...

Other happy news, Jo has a new contract with her work so will be happy researching for at least another two years and progressing in her career, which is great news.

I've been working for just over a month now in the Treasury department of one of the world's largest consultancy firms. As you can tell I am trying to make it sound as impressive as possible, hoping that you think I'm a high flyer in the big smoke... The truth is I'm still hoping to get an IT gig soon, but its been a bit tricky following a downturn in the job market. Around 38% less IT jobs advertised compared with this time last year, but I'm still hopeful.

The city is buzzing just now with the Australian Open tennis taking place here, its great and we're off to see it tomorrow night when Andy Murray takes centre court for his 2nd round match against some spanish radge, who we'll be booing every time his greasy mug gets on the screen (we're watching on the big screen at the event - a kind of Murray Mound/Henman Hill down under - not in Rod Laver Arena itself). At least 3 of our group are Scots, and Jo is an adopted jock so we'll be making some noise and i'm still trying to persuade everyone to get our faces painted with the saltire on all 4 cheeks...

Summer is here with a vengeance, it took its time to reach the dizzy heights of the high thirties. This week has been averaging 32, which is tough on the tennis players but lets not feel too sorry for them given their vast earnings.

We had a quiet christmas and new year this time around, went to Echuca on the Murray and met up with the Spong clan for a few days. We spent Hogmanay with our good friends George and Jan, had a nice meal at one of Victoria Street's finest Vietnamese joints, then took in the fireworks in the city. Spectacular, although we we're all in bed not far from the bells as we were all a bit knackered.

As I type the News are reflecting on an historic day over stateside where Obama has been sworn in amid frenzied scenes in DC. Good luck to him I say.

Well I think I've got through most of the news, apologies for the tardiness of our posting. Like a bran-enthusiast, we promise to be more regular from now.

Take care and Happy New Year
