Engagement bbq, friends & family, and a sick dog

by Jo Spong

It has been quite some time between blogs, but it has been a busy time for both Al and I.

A couple of weeks ago our friend Jason came to visit for a few days from Germany. It was really great to see him and to hear about his latest adventures. We went to visit the Yarra Valley to sample some wines. On this trip we witnessed first hand just how close the recent bushfires came to the wineries and it still amazes me that only one winery was burnt to the ground. Jason enjoyed sampling the fine wines of Victoria and finding out from the lovely lady at Balgownie estate what to drink if he was feeling "fuzzy". He thought she was referring to his body hair, however she was referring to the fuzziness inside our mouths after having a few bevies.

A few days after saying goodbye to Jason, Al's folks arrived from Scotland to stay for a few weeks. They have been exploring Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. Tomorrow we are off along the Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles. I suspect I will only see 8 as I think the other 4 are on Annual Leave :p Next week we will be going to the Grand Prix where we will see "The Who" in concert, and we plan on attending some acts from the Comedy Festival. Its been great spending some quality time with Al's parents, but what has been truely fantastic is my accomplishment of turning his mum into a full blown "The Biggest Loser" addict after only one day! Im very impressed :p

Last saturday we had a bbq in Alexandra Park with some friends and our families to celebrate our recent engagement. Al did a fine job cooking the snags, rissoles and kebabs on the bbq. We were impressed with our cake....it was um... bigger than we had planned, it possibly could have fed the whole suburb of Kew! It was a great opportunity for us to catch up with friends who we havent seen for quite some time and also for our families to spend time together. Unfortunately our friend Dave's dog became ill towards the end of the day, which kind of made some of the guests ill too, however he seemed to bounce back and returned to chasing the soccer ball around shortly after.

Work wise, we are both very busy. I am trying to get a research project up and running and Al has taken on some freelance work so is busy coding and developing. I might give him some freelance "doing the washing" work soon :)

We hope you are all well,

xJo & Al
